🎇 The Myth of Financial Independence

Wealth and Wisdom
Monday's

You were never meant to carry everything alone. Needing support does not mean you've failed. It means you're human.

Here’s what we mean:
Around Independence Day, we hear a lot about self-sufficiency, hard work, and standing on our own two feet.
And while there is nothing wrong with wanting financial stability, many of us have absorbed a message that says needing help is weakness. That if we're truly successful, we should be able to handle everything ourselves.
But that's not how life works.
The truth is, most of us got where we are because someone opened a door, shared knowledge, offered encouragement, watched the kids, helped us through a hard season, or simply reminded us we weren't alone.
Yet when it comes to money, asking for help can feel deeply uncomfortable.
For some, it brings up shame. For others, it triggers fears of being a burden.
And for many people, especially those who have spent years being the strong one, it can feel safer to struggle quietly than to ask for support.
But financial wellness isn't built in isolation. It's built through community, partnership, guidance, and connection.

Dollars and Sense

A woman once told me that she had built her entire life around never needing anyone. She paid her own bills. Raised her children. Worked long hours. Handled every crisis that came her way.

People admired her strength. But what they didn't see was what happened behind closed doors.

One evening, she sat at her kitchen table surrounded by unopened financial paperwork. The house was quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator. She stared at the stack and felt completely overwhelmed. Not because she wasn't capable. Because she was exhausted.

For years she had convinced herself that asking for help would mean she wasn't doing enough. That she should already know how to figure it out. That successful people didn't need support.

Then she finally reached out. Not because she was falling apart. Because she was ready to stop carrying everything alone.

And what surprised her most wasn't the help she received. It was how much lighter she felt simply knowing she didn't have to hold it all by herself anymore.

Take inventory of your financial support system.

Who can you learn from?

Who can you ask questions of?

Who helps you feel less alone in your financial journey?

Financial wellness isn't just about what sits in your bank account. It's also about the resources, relationships, and support surrounding you.

Worth a Read:

More Than Enough by Elaine Welteroth

If you’re craving a read that feels like a pep talk and a permission slip at the same time, this is such a good pick. Elaine shares her story with honesty and heart, reflecting on identity, ambition, and what it really takes to claim space in rooms not built for you. It’s part memoir, part manifesto, and all about remembering you are already more than enough. As she learns to rely on herself by looking both inward and upward, we’re ultimately reminded that we’re more than enough.... A beautiful, grounding read for anyone navigating big dreams or big transitions.
